Cement burial considered in case involving embattled detective
Source: Philadelphia Daily NewsOct.文件倉 27--THE SEARCH for answers in the increasingly tangled case of Homicide Detective Ron Dove will involve more digging.Lots of it, as a matter of fact.Narcotics cops found pictures of Dove with a suspected drug dealer earlier this week when they raided a property in the city, law-enforcement sources said yesterday. Also, the sources said, investigators working on a sprawling Internal Affairs investigation into Dove have been told that Reynaldo Torres, who was involved in an unsolved homicide case that Dove handled, might have been covered in cement and buried in a gritty North Philly gully.Police unearthed a tarp, animal bones and possibly a human rib bone in the desolate spot, behind a ballfield at 4th and Westmoreland streets, after they were led there on Monday by information that was found on Dove's iPad. Cadaver dogs keyed in on the area where the tarp was buried.Investigators were trying to determine if the pit had served as a burial ground for Torres, who vanished along with Melanie Colon in May 2012. Colon was found shot to death that same month.Dove -- who was put on desk duty earlier this month for helping his girlfriend, Erica Sanchez, flee the city after she allegedly killed her ex-boyfriend, Cesar Vera -- briefly worked on the Colon and Torres case. The sources said detectives are exploring the possibility that Vera might have been involved with Torres' disappearance. The cement burial and the possible association with a drug dealer are one of many leads that Homicide and Internal Affairs investigators are chasing as the investigation into Dove deepens.Sanchez, his longtime lover, surrendered to police last week, and was charged with murder for fatally stabbing Vera in North Philly on Sept. 8.She's behind bars at Riverside Correctional存倉Facility, and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Nov. 6.The Inquirer has reported that Dove allegedly moved Sanchez's car after the murder, and later drove her to upstate New York. From that bizarre allegation, police learned that Dove handled another unsolved homicide investigation that unfolded in an Olney bar that was owned by Sanchez's father, Humberto Sanchez. In that case, a bystander named Leslie Delzingaro was shot to death when a gunman burst into J.J.'s Lounge at 2nd and Duncannon streets on July 1, 2010, and opened fire, wounding two men who were the supposed targets.Delzingaro's mother, Eileen DiFrancesco, said earlier this week that Dove ignored the family's requests for information about the investigation for months. They met once at an event in October 2010 organized by Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey for homicide victims. Dove told the family that he was friends with the owner of J.J's, and assured them that the man was a "great guy," DiFrancesco said.Dove did not disclose that Sanchez was his girlfriend's father.Relatives of both Leslie Delzingaro and Melanie Colon have accused Dove of not thoroughly investigating the cases.Dove, 41, has not responded to requests for comment. It's unclear if departmental policies require detectives to recuse themselves from investigations that involve acquaintances or loved ones."It's troubling to see this situation unfold," said Kelvyn Anderson, executive director of the civilian-run Police Advisory Commission."These guys are given a lot of latitude to do their jobs, but obviously there should be firm rules about what to do if a conflict of interest arises."Twitter: @dgambacortaCopyright: ___ (c)2013 the Philadelphia Daily News Visit the Philadelphia Daily News at .philly.com Distributed by MCT Information Services儲存
