OU Football Notebook: Sooners soak up Bourbon Street
Source: Tulsa World, Okla.迷你倉將軍澳Dec. 30--Sooners soak up Bourbon Street: It's tradition that Bob Stoops allow his Oklahoma Sooners to enjoy their bowl experience. That's no different this year, even in a city as tempting as New Orleans."I've never seen anything like it where I'm from," said tackle Daryl Williams, a native of Lake Dallas, Texas. "It's crazy. I think it's a lot of energy and it's a lot of fun.""Bourbon Street is awesome. Bourbon Street is incredible," defensive end Geneo Grissom said. "Just all the different businesses, all the different places, all the different people... You see lots of different people on Bourbon Street. It's been a lot of fun."The Sooners were allowed a 2 a.m. curfew their first few nights in New Orleans, but expected that to be scaled back as game day approached. They also promised they were behaving themselves, something senior captains like Aaron Colvin thought about the moment they touched down."I heard it's a pretty fun place, but we have some dedicated guys on this team," Colvin said after the team's arrival on Friday. "Being a leader, that's my job to kind of keep that under control. It will be fine."Iron Bowl revisited: Back in Norman, Stoops said there wasn't a lot of time to practice things like returning a missed field goal, a play that sent Auburn past Alabama and into the national championship game.Well, the Sooners found some time."The next day at practice," Grissom said. "It was right after that game."OU sent Jalen Saunders back to return the missed kick. Ex倉ect to see him in the end zone Thursday night, should Alabama try another 57-yarder.Second time no harm: There is an idea the Sooners have caught another bad bowl break, same as last year when they fell to the Cotton Bowl and had to deal with Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M.Now OU gets Alabama, after the Crimson Tide fell to the Sugar Bowl thanks to Auburn's miraculous victory.Bad luck? Colvin doesn't see it that way."As a senior you love it," he said. "I mean, when you want to be the best you've gotta beat the best. That's what we keep getting, so we keep getting opportunities to beat the best. Why not relish the moment? I know right now that's how we're treating it. We've just gotta have fun."We have nothing to lose at the end of the day. It's just football and we can go out there and play free."No gloating from Saunders: Late this season, it appeared that OU was out of the BCS picture. Fresno State, Saunders' first school before transferring last year, was 10-0 and seemed destined for the Fiesta Bowl. Then Fresno lost to San Jose State and wound up at the Las Vegas Bowl. The Sooners upset Oklahoma State and drew an at-large bid to the Sugar. That irony was presented to Saunders recently."A lot of people had doubts in us finishing out the year, and we went out and proved people wrong," he said simply. "We did an excellent job finishing the season strong."Copyright: ___ (c)2013 Tulsa World (Tulsa, Okla.)
