Source: Winston-Salem Journal, N.迷你倉C.Sept. 13--CAT HELP TEAMStarting Saturday, Forsyth County Animal Control will be offering a free monthly program to help people who have adopted a cat, either from the Animal Shelter or from elsewhere. A team of "experienced cat enthusiasts" will be on hand to discuss such topics as cat health, behavior issues and how to introduce a new cat into a home. Sessions will be held on the second Saturday of each month from 1-2 p.m. at the Forsyth County Animal Shelter, 5570 Sturmer Park Circle. Registration is suggested but not required; call (336) 703-2480 or email animalshelter@forsyth.cc to register or for more information.A similar program for dog owners is in development, and we will let you know when we have more information on it.SPLIT-TOP BUNSAfter Thursday's reader request for stores that sell New England-style split-top hot dog buns, A.L. wrote in to say that they are sold at Ingles Grocery in Walnut Cove, in the bakery section."They are called frankfurter buns," A.L. wrote. "I like them better than regular hot dog buns myself."LOBSTER ROLLSOne last recommendation for lobster rolls: C.M. wrote in to say that they are served at Hickory Tavern restaurants, a chain that is in several North Carolina towns, including Hickory and Asheville. The restaurant menu, at .thehickorytavern.com, describes their dish as "lobster salad served on a grilled New England roll."FRIDAY THE 13THWatch out for broken mirrors and ladders today. There's already plenty of bad luck to go around. Today is Friday the 13th.But why a儲存e people so afraid of a date on a calendar?Fridays have been associated with bad fortune since at least as early as the 14th century when, in "The Canterbury Tales," Geoffrey Chaucer wrote, "And on a Friday fell all this mischance."References to Friday being an ominous day became even more popular in the 17th century. According to the Oxford Dictionary of Superstitions, you shouldn't marry, leave for a trip, move into a new house or begin a new project on a Friday. The number 13, meanwhile, has also been associated with trouble for centuries. The theories why that number is so bad include: there were 13 people at the Last Supper; in numerology, 12 is considered a number of completeness and 13 is therefore one past it; and in Norse mythology, the god Loki caused mayhem as an uninvited guest at a dinner party that was meant for 12 people (Loki, incidentally, was the villain in last year's big-screen superhero movie "The Avengers"). Some buildings even skip from the 12th to the 14th floors in the official naming to avoid the unlucky number. So, you combine those two superstitions and you've got a double-whammy. There's even a name for the fear of Friday the 13th, "paraskevidekatriaphobia." It was coined in the 1980s by Donald Dossey, a behavioral scientist from Asheville. The more straightforward fear of the number 13 by itself is called "triskaidekaphobia."Copyright: ___ (c)2013 Winston-Salem Journal (Winston Salem, N.C.)
