Vectren meeting tonight to discuss airport pipeline

Source: Dayton Daily News, OhioAug.文件倉 29--DAYTON -- DAYTON --Vectren Energy Delivery will host a public meeting tonight to discuss its proposed $10 million transmission pipeline relocation project."We've got a transmission pipeline that is literally running underneath various runways of the Dayton International Airport and it's kind of close to the terminal," said Chase Kelley, Vectren's vice president of corporate communications.The Z-167 natural gas pipeline has been around for decades and has been upgraded several times. "It has come to a point whereby we need to relocate it and get it off the airport property," Kelley said.The public meeting will be from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Vandalia Recreation Center, 1111 Stonequarry Road. Besides Vectren officials, members of the Ohio Power Siting Board also will be in attendance.The pipeline has to be removed and relocated because of new regulations related to the testing of pipelines. Inspectors use devices that record information about the internal condition of a pipeline, tests its integrity and reports data back to engineers.Because of the location of the pipeline, the inspection process would disrupt airport travel because of the digging and insertions into the pipeline. "Because these inspections a存倉e ongoing and are likely only going to increase, it makes sense from a safety standpoint to move it off the property," Kelley said.Construction of the new pipeline is scheduled for summer of next year.Terrence Slaybaugh, the airport's director of aviation, said the relocation process, which includes abandoning the pipeline, will not have any impact on daily airport operations.The new line will be a 12-inch diameter pipeline that will be approximately 6.55 miles long. It will be placed on the west side of airport property, Kelley said."The new alignment is going to go through parcels of property that are owned by the city of Dayton and are going to be in close proximity to the airport," Slaybaugh said. "We're looking at that alignment and identifying any potential conflicts with future plans for the airport."Vectren will file with the Ohio Power Siting Board, division of the PUCO.
